School Council

Our school council is a very active group who have a substantial impact on the directions of our school. The role of the school council is defined in the Education Act 1999 and the details are available on the Department of Education and Training website.

Functions of the School Council

A summary of the functions of our School Council is as follows.

  1. To take part in:
    • establishing and reviewing from time to time, the School's objectives, priorities and general policy directions
    • financial planning to support the above
    • evaluating the School's performance in achieving them
    • formulating codes of conduct for Students at the School.
  2. To promote the School in the community.
  3. To determine, in consultation, a dress code for students.
  4. To provide advice on policy for religious education and implementation of special religious education.
  5. To approve:
    • charges, contributions and fees
    • extra cost optional components of the school’s educational program
    • items to be supplied by a student for personal use on the educational program
    • advertising and sponsorship arrangements.
  6. With the approval of the Director-General (as the Minister's delegate) to take part in the selection of, but not the appointment of, the School principal or any other member of the teaching staff
